This unit introduces learners to the fundamental concepts and components of electrical power systems. It covers the processes involved in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical energy, as well as the equipment used in each stage. Learners will explore different sources of power such as hydro, thermal, solar, and wind, and understand how electrical energy is delivered from power stations to consumers.

The unit also emphasizes the importance of system protection, fault detection, and safety practices in ensuring reliable and efficient power supply. Through both theoretical knowledge and practical activities, learners will develop the skills required to identify components of power systems, analyze basic operations, and apply safety measures in electrical environments.

This course provides advanced foundational knowledge in electrical engineering principles including circuit analysis, electrical measurements, power systems basics, transformers, and electrical machines. It prepares learners for industrial electrical applications and further specialization.

The assessments are both formative and summative i.e

 CAT 1 :       out of 30 marks

CAT 2   :         out of  70 marks : it involves E- tivities , assignments  and group work.

The course facilitator for this course is Dr. Koech, Principal BTTI
